Ozone treatment is a highly effective method of water disinfection and much safer than Chlorine and other chemical disinfection methods. Due to the high oxidation ozone will effectively destroy bacteria microbes and viruses, causing cell membrane rupture and decomposition of the bio-molecular components. Ozone can also oxidize hydrocarbons of cellular lipid bi-layers to kill a broad spectrum of contaminant microbes.
There are essentially no harmful residual effects from ozone treatment, as ozone undergoes a natural decomposition in water. Ozone is also produced on site and eliminates the costs and risks of shipping and handling of industrial chemical disinfectants.
Disinfection efficiency is commonly measured using the CT-value (concentration multiplied by time). Ozone is the safest and most efficient of all disinfection methods.
